The Cult of Elnett hairspray

Allure magazine devotes some serious real-estate to L’Oreal Elnett hairspray in this month’s issue, namechecking it as one of those products that all beauty insiders can’t get enough of.  Longtime Jolie readers will remember that I’ve been championing this product for years, and have listed it in Beauty Confidential as a “Product to Bring Back From Europe”:

“L’Oreal Elnett hairspray: A light hold, guaranteed-to-find-it-in-every-single-professional-hairstylist’s-kit-favorite, this aerosol is easy to brush out, not-too-sticky, and perfect for when you don’t want anybody to know that you’re actually wearing hairspray.”

Elnett is now available stateside at Target, but the formula is slightly tweaked and suspicion remains that it won’t be quite as good as the old semi-contraband stuff.  So, next time you’re in London or Paris–just to keep the glamour quotient sky-high–add a can of Elnett to your “must buy” beauty list.  You won’t regret it!

omg! what a coincidence.. i went to target today with my boyfriend and when i saw this i stared in disbelief freaking out and the poor guy had no idea what was happening or the seriousness of the situation.

i have TONS of elnett hairspray i toted back from europe (literally enough to last a lifetime)

i was really intrigued though because besides the fact that they had it, they had one for color treated hair.

I picked up a can at Target two weeks ago. It is THE HOLY GRAIL of hairspays! I’ve been able to do more with my fine, thin, limp hair than I ever thought possible. If the European version is even better, I can’t wait to try that, too.

  3. Oh I LOVED that article.
When they were describing all the different ways stylists would try to scam the system just to get Elnett in the states, I shed a little cosmetic carnivore tear, because I too feel the pain of amazing products being inaccessible (I live in Canada).

I refuse to believe that beauty addict’s obsessions are pure vanity…maybe 99% vanity, but some part of it is the emotional well being of having a hobby that only a budget can limit. If we all had limitless credit cards, well we would send all the economies of the world into the stratosphere with our expirementation.

Whenever you buy something like a can of mythical hairpsray, which may be frivolous to the average person, you are actually helping the average person in your own small way.

I’ve used Elnett through the years (I’m a Brit so it’s readily available) and I have to say: it sucks. Save your money and buy Aquanet instead. When I discovered it on a trip to the US I was in hairspray heaven! It held my barnet like no other!

Also, Elnett is extremely overpriced and always has been. And L’Oreal have questionable ethics re: animal testing.

I’ve used hairspray and it made my hair from silky to dry.I was wondering if this one dried your hair after a couple uses?
