Beverly Hills is fairly crowded with hair salons (not to mention ladies who lunch and seem to think nothing of dropping thousands of dollars at the boutiques lining Rodeo Drive–who are these people?), so for a place to make an impact, it has to be really special. Recently, I went to just such a new rockstar salon for a haircut and conditioning treatment: Yoshi Hair Studio.
Opened by Yoshi Hagiwara, who’s former head-stylist at Fekkai and has appeared on America’s Next Top Model, Yoshi Hair Studio is everything you’d want from a hair place: small, intimate, chic and down-to-earth. None of this, “And who are youuuu here to see?” business that’s so common to West Hollywood and Beverly Hills hot spots–which I cannot stand! (If you’re going to make me feel unwelcome at your salon…well, I probably won’t be coming back, you know?)
Yoshi is from Japan and has a very studious, the-hair’s-the-thing vibe about him, which I always appreciate. I don’t need to be wined and dined and wooed and chatted; I just want to leave with great-looking hair. Yoshi kindly treated me to an intensive conditioning session using two of his signatures: Yoshi’s Magic Water and Yoshi’s Magic Conc Treatment. The salon also offers $35 blowdrys (Dry Bar has really made their mark on this town, huh?) and, of course, haircuts and color. I had a cut with Yoshi and left with super cute, very cleaned-up hair. If you’re looking for a new place with style and without attitude, check it out!
