Last month, I went to Las Vegas for a long weekend and had the most amazing VIP experience thanks to the MGM Group’s new membership card program: M Life.
Looking for a room upgrade to one of the private villas at the recently renovated MGM Grand? Want first-row seats to the hottest new Cirque du Soleil show…and then a private backstage photo-op with the troupe? How about the chance to pick the songs played on the Bellagio fountains while sipping one of their legendary Bellinis? Or would you rather a private cooking lesson with the Executive Chef at Charlie Palmer’s top-rated restaurant Aureole? The M Life program is designed to bring all these experiences to life for you.
There are five different M Life cards, with several different tiers–Sapphire as the lowest, Noir as the peak, and Pearl, Gold and Platinum in between–and each card has different perks and access. The Sapphire card is the introductory membership card that everybody gets when you sign up with the M Life program. As you return to Vegas and spend money with the MGM Group’s hotels, casinos, restaurants, bars, clubs and shows, however, you’ll accumulate points, and eventually migrate up the tiers. Once you climb, you’ll get even better access: think concert tickets before they go on sale to the public, priority hotel check-in, free limos to and from the airport, guaranteed dinner and club reservations, and more. It’s key. Vegas is all about the access.
The Noir M Life card is like a Black AmEx: it means all-access, no ropes, no lines, no waiting, no problem. Sadly, my card is only Sapphire, and the Noir M Life card is by invitation only. (Jolie no likey being denied.) Knowing the Noir M Life card exists feels like a personal challenge…but since the MGM Group gave us such a thrilling slice of life over the weekend, it felt like I owned a Noir M Life card, and that’s good enough for me. Hey, I’ve lived three decades somehow tricking my way into all-access, so hopefully the trend will continue, Noir M Life card or no!
My M Life experience was, like most things in life, better because it was shared: my gals Patrice Yursik, Amber Katz, Aly Walansky and Zippy Sandler were there. We stayed at one of Vegas’s newest hotels Aria: conveniently located at City Center, right in the heart of the Strip. You can take the tram to nearby hotels VDara, Monte Carlo and New York New York, as well as walk right next door to Crystals Shopping Center, which is like Fifth Avenue on (gilded) crack: think Cartier, Dolce & Gabbana and Louis Vuitton.
The first thing you notice about Aria when you walk in is the smell: it’s warm and delicious, like vanilla and sandalwood. We had a tour of the property and learned that not only are there mini vents underneath every single slot machine to help the smoke circulate (that’s right–you can still smoke indoors in Vegas), but that Aria Sky Suites is the only hotel in Vegas to have earned five stars (the Forbes Five-Star Travel Rating) in 2013.
The entire trip was next-level: while I was getting an Ashiatsu massage at The Spa at Aria (which features Pevonia products!), Amber was doing yoga with dolphins at The Mirage, and others in our group were doing ice luge shots at the indoor ice bar Minus 5 at Monte Carlo.[Oh, and if you’ve never had an Ashiatsu massage, it’s one of those “creative” massages where the masseuse hangs from the ceiling and walks all over your back with their oiled-up feet. While The Spa at Aria was huge, amazing, and gorgeous–and my technician was incredibly nice and surprisingly skilled–I will not be returning for an Ashiatsu massage anytime soon. But I digress.]
Here are a few snaps from the weekend, including our VIP access at the Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament (as I quipped, “Do you think he calls it the Me Invitational?”), which was hosted by Aria. MJ was in the house all weekend, and we saw him at Haze Nightclub at Aria on our last night, where we had a VIP table right near Michael Jordan’s VIP table.
You know. ‘Cause that’s how M Life rolls.
